  3. The Arecibo Radio Telescope, built in Puerto Rico in 1963, is one of the world's largest radio telescopes and was used in the James Bond classic GoldenEye.

  4. The tiny tree frog “coqui” is the national symbol of Puerto Rico. Legend claims it can only sing and survive on this island.

  5. Puerto Rico claims to be the largest rum producer in the world.

  6. Medalla Light is Puerto Rico’s award-winning local beer, and is only sold in 7-10 ounce sizes to ensure it is consumed before it gets warm.

  7. El Yunque National Forest in Puerto Rico is the only tropical forest in the U.S.A. Forest Service system, and the smallest at only 28,000 acres.

  8. The Puerto Rican rainforest has an average rainfall of 120 inches per year, which equals about 160 billion gallons of water. That is enough to supply the residents of the capital, San Juan, for more than two years.

  9. Five winners in the Miss Universe pageant have been from Puerto Rico.
