The Caribbean islands typically have a slow season of tourists during the hurricane season and for good reason! You can't go on a relaxing escape with the thought of bad weather looming in your mind. Did you know, though, that some islands don't get hit by bad weather? Keep reading to learn more about some island escapes you can enjoy all year round.
The “ABC” Islands are the most well-known islands located outside of the hurricane belt.
Aruba
Aruba is the most popular choice out of the ABC islands. It’s home to some of the world's finest white sand beaches and crystal clear waters, the ideal destination for those looking to relax on the beach. If you’re looking for more action, Aruba isn’t just all sand and beaches, you can also experience world-class windsurfing and waterskiing by day, and discos, cabarets, dinner shows, and high-stakes gambling at night. If you enjoy good beaches, ethnic food, gambling, and quality shopping, Aruba is for you.
Bonaire
Bonaire is a scuba diver's dream! It offers crystal-clear water and colorful reefs that are easily accessible from the shore. Over time, the island and water have formed a marine park, making it one of the best dive spots on the planet. Although the nightlife is not as active as in Aruba, there are unique things to do on land if diving is not your thing. Their National Park consists of a cactus jungle and desertlike environment (unlike the lush tropical landscape the Caribbean is known for), along with wild donkeys and flamingos - making for a non-traditional Caribbean trip.
Curacao
Did you know that Willemstad, the capital city of this Dutch Caribbean island, is a UNESCO World Heritage site signifying the exceptional value of this historic city? It’s a city you definitely want to add to your bucket list! More than 39 beaches line the coast and its one of the world's best dive destinations with more than 70 dive sites. It is sunny, and 80 degrees Fahrenheit, all year, making it a great place for those who want to swim, dive, or just have great weather to enjoy. The island also has varied terrain so other activities can be enjoyed such as hiking, biking, and other motorized sports. You might recognize this island by its liquor named after the island: Blue Curacao (bottoms up!).
Grenada, Trinidad and Tobago, and St. Vincent also have a low chance of being affected by hurricanes.
Grenada is ideal for those wanting a natural getaway of beaches and rainforests, with very limited tourists and crowds.
Trinidad and Tobago is perfect for any type of traveler as each island provides a different feel: Trinidad is larger, with great music, culture, and nightlight, while Tobago is smaller, with rainforests and a natural, laid-back environment.
St Vincent is Ideal for those looking for tranquility along with outdoor adventures.
