Transportation in Venice equates to traveling by water. Everything in the city moves by boat or foot - you will not see automobiles, bicycles, or mopeds, except on the Lido.
You can journey from the train station to Piazza San Marco via gondola! In fact, it’s the best way!
Price:
Gondola fees depend primarily on the duration of the trip, and bargaining does occur. Fees vary according to the time of day and start at 80 euros for the first 40 minutes, for up to six people, and about 40 euros for each additional 20 minutes. It goes up to 100 euros, and 50 euros for each additional 20 minutes.
Unlike the movies, you won't automatically be serenaded on your Gondola ride. That's an extra fee and/or comes with group trips.
Traghetto (The gondola’s simpler cousin) is a less expensive option for a gondola-esque experience. Many locals use the traghetto to cross the Grand Canal when there is no nearby bridge. It is common to stand for the duration of the journey, which takes about 3 minutes, and costs around 2 euros.
Tipping:
At the end of a gondola tour, if you did have a singer or accordion music, it is customary to tip the musicians 10%-20% of the trip price
