Swim With Pigs on Your Next Trip

Are you an adventurous traveler, that likes to experience the unique things a destination has to offer? Are you an animal lover, especially a lover of pigs? Then the Bahamas should be on your travel bucket list.

Big Major Cay, an uninhabited island part of the Bahamas, is home to Pig Beach with the world-famous swimming pigs!

The pigs are not native to the island, and no one knows for sure how they got there. Many believe that sailors brought them back to cook and eat, or that they swam to the island after a shipwrecked nearby. There are now around 20 pigs and piglets that roam the island and bring in thousands of tourists each year.

There are many ways to see and swim with the pigs. If you're staying in Nassau or Exumas, you can book a day trip to see the pigs. Typically these will be a boat tour through The Exuma Cays, where you’ll see hundreds of reefs, marine life, and breathtaking emerald water.

Once you get to the island, the pigs will swim right up to you, as they are very accustomed to people. You can swim with them, pet them, and even feed them, but don’t forget to take a selfie!

While in the area, you can also explore the caves and snorkel at Thunderball Grotto, seen in the James Bond movie. Or swim with nurse sharks in Compass Cay.
