Where to Stay in Saint Lucia Based on Your Travel Style

Updated: Jan 11, 2023

Although Saint Lucia (St. Lucia) is a small island, roughly 230 square miles, its varied terrain, towering mountains, volcanos, and lush rainforests can make it difficult to explore the entire island during your stay. Knowing what area of the island best suits your travel style can help you enjoy your time in St. Lucia more efficiently.

St. Lucia has two sides to the island, the North and the South, each with distinct characteristics and activity options for different travel styles.

The Northside: Nightlife & Beaches

This side of the island is the happening place, and perfect when traveling with a group of friends. Located near the capital, Castries keeps you next to all the excitement. Here you’ll find bustling markets, restaurants, beachside bars, late-night activities, and a vast selection of all-inclusive resorts.

Top things to do include: Visiting the Castries Market or Rodney Bay Village, spending a day at Marigot Bay or Reduit Beach, and exploring Pigeon Island National Park and its landmarks and ruins.

The Southside: A Tranquil Retreat

This southern coast is a quiet and more peaceful area, perfect for romantic getaways or honeymoons. Relax on less crowded beaches, explore secluded coves, or venture out into the jungle landscape to see exotic plants and animals. This part of the island has many of the top sightseeing experiences!

Top things to do include: Snorkeling, hiking the Pitons, visiting the Sulphur Springs and Volcano, and strolling through the Diamond Falls Botanical Gardens.
